Why the Bible matters? Many are wondering if the Bible is still relevant to current events and life. This series was developed for the apologetics portion of our Marine Biology adventure course. Originally titled “Seashore Sessions: What’s Going On?”, this series is aimed to help teens and young adults think about how to make sense of the world, who God is, and how it matters to them.
In this course:
World Philosophies that trash the Bible and God (session 1) | 40 min
There have been many world philosophies that have tried to explain the state of world and the nature of humankind. Many claim that God does not exist (or man has killed the need for religion) and some even go so far as to say evil does not exist. These philosophies also predict that humankind will progress and get better and in such a world, why does the Bible matter? The Bible has a very different view of the world and humankind and offers are very different path to redemption and peace.
Pivotal Moment in Time Part 1 – Crucifixion of Jesus (session 2) | 42 min
Crucifixion was a means of execution used by many cultures starting with the Assyrians. The Romans adopted crucifixion and turned it into a gruesome art. This lesson describes in detail how Roman crucifixion was performed, what they specifically did to Jesus, and how Jesus died on the cross. There are no visual depictions of crucifixion in this video except for Michael’s audio description but viewer discretion is advised for especially young listeners.
Pivotal Moment in Time Part 2 – Resurrection of Jesus (session 3) | 35 min
After Jesus was illegally condemned and crucified, the Bible says He rose from the grave. The resurrection is the most contested historical event and many claim that it is a fairytale or a trick. However there are logical problems with the skeptic theories. There is also the manner in which the resurrection occurred that follows the legal requirements of acceptable evidence (and especially eyewitness evidence) in a court.
A Prophecy Fulfilled: Jews return to Israel (session 4) | 39 min
The Bible contains many prophecies about nations, and generally it is about their destruction. A prophecy from Isaiah and Ezekiel about the nation of Israel is currently being fulfilled right now! 7 million Jews have returned to the Holy Land as of today and they have turned a desolate land into a garden, just as the Old Testament prophets said.
Archaeology that confirms Biblical Events (session 5) | 39 min
The field of archaeology is an incredible field to look for evidence of biblical events and characters. We have been able to confirm that even minor characters existed! This session is an overview of several artifacts that have helped confirm the biblical record of events and how you can trust what your read in your Bible today.
