Biologist, author, and Bible teacher Michael Lane takes a deep dive into this three-part series “David & The Giants” to uncover evidence found in archaeology and prove the existence of King David, Goliath, and the Giants.

Video 2, “Part 1: David”
We let the stones speak for themselves about the evidence of King David. In the second episode of the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane unpacks details surrounding the Mesha Stele, a stone found in the country of Jordan. What does it reveal to us? “King David & The Notable Sling” | 5 Minutes
Video 4, “Part 1: David”
Some critics say the story of David and Goliath never took place. In the fourth episode of the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane invites us to explore an unexpected piece of evidence that proves the Biblical account of David and Goliath: David’s sling. Critics of this story say slings were never used until after the time of David, but tombs – including the tomb of King Tut who existed before David – have been opened, revealing the presence of slings long before David’s existence. Enter the E4F studio with Michael and strengthen your defense of Christianity with the interesting artifact of slings.

“King David’s Palace In jerusalem” | 6 Minutes
Video 5, “Part 1: David”
Archaeologists have spent decades uncovering fascinating evidence that proves the existence of royal palaces in the Bible. In the fifth episode of the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane builds up our account of King David’s existence with evidence found by archaeologists in the city of David. What did they find? In the 1920s, archaeologists R.A.S. Macalister and J. Garrow Duncan began digging in Jerusalem and found massive walls of some type of building. Fast forward to the 1960s, archaeologists found things like broken pottery that indicated the structure was grand, most likely a royal palace dating back to 10th and 11th century B.C. Visit the E4F studio with Michael and enter David’s palace to strengthen your account for the existence of King David in the Bible.

“How Does Geshur Add Evidence For King David’s Existence?” | 10 Minutes
Video 7, “Part 1: David”
For many years, scholars thought Geshur was a mythical city. In the final episode of Part: 1 in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane adds support of King David’s existence by providing evidence for the location of an Old Testament Kingdom of Geshur and its capital. According to the Bible, the city of Geshur is the location in which King David’s son fled, to the north and the south of The Sea of Galilee. Archaeologists have excavated various lands throughout history to discover the true location of Geshur, and Dr. Steven Notley suggests a site that fits what the Biblical description relays, reflecting what we are seeing with archaeology and other ancient sources. Visit the E4F studio with Michael and learn how the city of Geshur adds support for the existence of King David.

“Where Is The city of Gath?” | 5 Minutes
Video 9, “Part 2: Goliath”
The Bible reveals fascinating context for the story of Goliath. In the second episode of Part 2: Goliath in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane gives us greater context in support of Goliath’s existence by unpacking the giant’s place of origin. According to God’s Word, Goliath came from the city of Gath, one of the five royal cities of the Philistines. Gath was unusual compared to other Philistine cities with its massive stones measuring at least two meters, covering 123.5 acres. Today the city of Gath dwells in modern day Israel. Visit the E4F studio with Michael and expand your knowledge of Goliath in the Bible.

“The Goliath Shard” | 4 Minutes
Video 10, “Part 2: Goliath”
Archaeology helps add support to the existence of Philistine champion Goliath. In the third episode of Part 2: Goliath in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane invites us to consider what evidence has been discovered on earth that unlocks the mystery concerning Goliath. Back in November of 2005, archaeologists were working on a dig in Gath and found a broken piece of clay, a shard. This discovery hit major news networks worldwide as it helps prove the existence of the Philistine: It is inscribed with the name Goliath. Archaeologists soon discovered this shard fits back in the time period of King David and King Saul. Visit the E4F studio with Michael and build up your apologetics toolbox with this fascinating archaeological artifact.

“How Tall Was Goliath?” | 13 Minutes
Video 11, “Part 2: Goliath”
One of Goliath’s most notable attributes is his tall height. In the fourth episode of Part 2: Goliath in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane invites us to explore what the Bible says about Goliath’s considerable stature. According to the ESV Bible (English Standard Version), the intimidating warrior stood at about 3.14 meters, or 11 feet 2 inches. In light of this height stated in the ESV, Goliath is described to stand at a different height in other Bible translations. Thus, this lesson unpacks logic to add support to Goliath’s true height. Visit the E4F studio with Michael and learn more about the Philistine champion.

“What was goliath’s armor in battle?” | 10 Minutes
Video 12, “Part 2: Goliath”
An Israeli farmer in 1962 was plowing his field one day and came upon a miraculous discovery: Enormous, oversized pieces of weapons and armor. In the fifth episode of Part: 2 in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane first lays out the Biblical description of the Philistine’s battle attire, and then adds support to this Biblical account with archaeological evidence found in Israel. 1 Samuel 17:5-7 in the Bible tells us that Goliath wore a helmet, a 140 pound coat of five thousand shekels, and a javelin. Findings in Kfar Monash match these descriptions of oversized weapons and armor, including pieces of daggers, axes, and spearheads, which are now featured in museums of Israel. Visit the E4F studio with Michael to dive into God’s Word and explore modern-day discoveries that add support to Goliath’s story.

“What Were Goliath’s Weapons?” | 15 Minutes
Video 13, “Part 2: Goliath”
The bronze spear of Philistine champion Goliath is said to be an astounding 12.7 feet long and weigh 33 pounds! In the final episode of Part 2: Goliath in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael Lane deepens our understanding of Goliath’s weapons described in 1 Samuel 17:4-7 with evidence found in Israel. Scholars have analyzed the weapons discovered in Kfar Monash, concluding that the weapons would be more of an obstacle for the warrior using them, rather than an aid. Thus, these weapons would be too large for someone of a normal size, and these provide more evidence that there were giants like Goliath. Visit Michael as he gives us a tour of Goliath’s weapons hung in the Evidence 4 Faith studio.

PART 3: nephilim
“What are the Nephilim?” | 30 Minutes
Video 14, “Part 3: Nephilim”
Many people over the years have asked Michael Lane about the Nephilim. In the first episode of Part 3: The Giants in the “David & The Giants” series, Michael guides us in a scriptural study to unpack the Nephilim, posing and answering questions like “What does God say about the Nephilim?” and “What does the term Nephilim mean?”. The Word of God only mentions the word ‘Nephilim’ twice, first stated in Genesis 6:4. Various Bible translations, such as the ESV (English Standard Version), the GNT (Good News Translation), the International Standard Version (ISV), the CEV (Contemporary English Version) and the Tyndale Bible, refer to these creatures as “sons of God,” “heavenly beings,” “divine beings,” “supernatural beings,” and “children of God.” Get ready to grab your Bibles with Michael and explore what the Word of God says about the Nephilim.
